Family and Partner Visas

In this category we can find a number of different types of visas available, and eligibility requirements can vary depending on the relationship of the applicant to the Australian citizen or permanent resident.

The family visa category is for people who have a relative living in Australia who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. To be eligible for this visa, you must have a sponsor who is willing to support your stay in Australia. You will also need to meet certain health and character requirements. If you are granted this visa, you will be able to work and study in Australia. You will also have access to free public healthcare through Medicare.

The family visa category is a great way to experience all that Australia has to offer while being able to spend time with your loved ones.

Child Visa

This visa allows a child to live in Australia, temporary or permanently, according to the visa type, and live with their parents. The child must be sponsored by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen or a temporary partner visa holders (subclass 309 or 820).

  • Visa S/C 101 (Child visa)

  • Visa S/C 445 (Dependent Child visa)

  • Visa S/C 802 (Child visa)

Parent Visa

This visa permits the parent to live in Australia, temporarily or permanently, according to the visa type. The applicants must be parents of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.

It is necessary to meet the balance-of-family test before applying.

Parent visas can be Non-contributory Parent or Contributory Parent.

The following Visas Sub Classes belong to this category:

  • Visa S/C 103 (Parent Visa)

  • Visa S/C 143 (Contributory Parent Visa)

  • Visa S/C 173 (Contributory Parent Visa- Temporary)

  • Visa S/C 804 (Aged Parent Visa)

  • Visa S/C 864 (Contributory Aged Parent Visa)

  • Visa S/C 884 (Contributory Aged Parent Visa- Temporary)

  • Visa S/C 870 (Sponsored Parent Visa- Temporary)

Partner Visa

This visa allows the partner (opposite and same sex) of an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia permanently or temporary, according to the visa type.

The Partner visa covers both Spouse and De Facto relationships. Although the requirements of partner visa for De facto partners are different to spouse, they are considered under the same subclasses as spouse partners.
