PARENT VISAS

If you are a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand eligible resident, you may be eligible to sponsor your parents to migrate to Australia. In addition, you must meet the balance-of-family test before applying to sponsor your parents.

Parent visas are available in two categories:

Non-contributory Parent Visas – The visas in this category let parents live permanently in Australia. Due to the high demands and limited places, there can be long waiting times of up to 30 years before the visa is decided. There are two subclasses for this category:

Parent Visa (Subclass 103) – Offshore
Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804) – Onshore

The Permanent Contributory Parent Visas (Subclasses 143 or 864) carry an indexed health charge under the 2^nd Instalment visa application charge ($43,600 as at 1 July 2014) per adult applicant.

Alternatively, applicants can apply for a 2-year temporary Contributory Parent visa (Subclasses 173 or 884) and pay a reduced health charge ($29,130 as at 1 July 2014) per adult applicant.
However, the visa can be changed to a permanent visa by paying the balance of the health charge later.
